Big Brothers Big Sisters
Big Brothers Big Sisters of America is one of the oldest and largest youth mentoring organizations in the United States. This organization operates in all 50 states and 12 countries around the world.
This program mentors children who are ages 6 through 14. The program provides educational, recreational, and cultural activities. Support and assessment, informational services, referral services, and interagency coordination are offered to children and families.
Big Brothers Big Sisters exists to fill the void in the lives of children from primarily one-parent homes. Through professional direction, volunteers provide guidance and friendship to these children. The Big Brother or Big Sister does not replace the parent or family. They help the family by providing support and friendship to the child.
Through this program, the Big Brother Big Sister spends 2-5 hours weekly with a child and commits to the relationship for at least one year. Big Brothers Big Sisters can be 16+ years old.
Big Brothers Big Sisters also has a school-based program that spends 1/2-1 hour weekly at school with the youth.
Norfolk office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm.
