Behavioral Health Specialists, Inc.

Behavioral Health Specialists has been offering a variety of different services to Northeast Nebraska for over 20 years. They have foster homes, respite care homes, mental health services, alcohol and drug services, and community support services.

BHS has an outpatient mental health program that address a wide variety of problems such as anxiety, fear, depression, major psychiatric disorders, stress, emotional trauma, family and marital problems, adjustment, and other problems.

BHS also can perform a variety of psychological assessments including personality assessments, intellectual/academic achievement assessments, and coordination with substance abuse and addiction services evaluation.

They also have outpatient substance abuse services that provide treatment services including evaluations, screenings, education and consultation services, individual/family/group therapy, aftercare, and referral services. 

BHS also offers an anger management class that offers specialized self-assessment, assertive communication training, stress management/reduction training, emotional intelligence enhancement, and learning empathic listening.

TEAM, the intensive outpatient dual disorders program, helps people make lifestyle changes in order to find a life free of substance abuse and addiction.  This program serves both youth and adults. Ten hours of service are involved each week with lengths of stay ranging from six to eleven weeks or more.  Participants are also allowed to continue school or working hours.

The community support program helps to maintain stabilization of client’s to help them live a successful life in the community.  They provide support to individuals who have a high risk of relapse in their substance abuse/addiction.  BHS will match the person to local resources, provide skills training in daily living, provide 24/7 emergency access and support, and help remove barriers to accessing services individuals need. This program is of no charge but individuals must meet certain requirements.

Behavioral Health provides Employee Assistance Program that can be purchased by employers for services such as brief solution-focused counseling, family and marital conflict resolution, emergency services, worksite intervention, and brief addiction screenings.

Another program at BHS is Project Connect. This program helps youth and their families access the services, training, and support they need. The program is free to participants and people from the following counties have priority: Madison, Wayne, Stanton, Pierce, Cedar, Cuming, Antelope, and Knox. The program focuses on alcohol and drug abuse education/intervention, parent outreach, and community support for juveniles.

The Crisis Response team is available to help with life challenges before they become a crisis as well as helping those in crisis. Issues a caller may be dealing with may be suicidal thoughts, depression, stress management, parenting issues, loneliness, economic issues, etc. The CARE line is 1-888-370-7003.

Youth and family services at BHS include foster care, respite care, home studies, and parent assistance. Therapeautic Foster Care serves children and youth whose special needs limit their success in traditional foster care. The youth live with highly trained foster parents and receive services that help them succeed. Respite care is also available to foster and biological parents to offer them a break from the stress of parenting. Home studies are also available at BHS to gather history of the foster family and to complete background checks. The parent assist program helps parents who have at risk youth.

Drug testing is also available at Behavioral Health and has three tests available: 5 panel urine analysis, alcohol saliva tests, and urine alcohol tests.

Behavioral Health Specialists office hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:00am to 9:00pm and on Fridays from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Sunrise Place, a residential treatment facility, is also a component of BHS and serves adults whose substance abuse requires social detoxification and residential treatment. For more information, contact Sunrise Place at 402-379-0040.
