Oasis Counseling International – Norfolk

Oasis Counseling International provides professional counseling services through a distinctive holistic Christian perspective.  They offer individual, child, adolescent, marriage, and family therapy.  They can help with addictions and anger management as well. Play therapy is also available for children. Oasis also performs psychological evaluations and spiritual inventories.

Oasis also offers therapy groups periodically based on demand.  These groups include: children’s behavioral/social skills group (children only), Safe Kids: Kids Empowered for Personal Safety (children only), parenting class in Spanish and English, sexual offenders therapy group (adult and adolescent men only), and Adult Survivors of Sexual Abuse (women only).

Oasis Counseling also has a drug and alcohol program.  Their mission is to restore those involved in drugs and alcohol and their families to their full God-designed potential.  Services include individual, family, and group counseling, co-dependency counseling, educational classes, court assessments (basic and comprehensive evaluation).  Oasis uses the Twelve Steps of recovery. The Journey Program is an IOP Intensive Outpatient Program for drug and alcohol dependency.

The Befriend Mentoring program is also a part of Oasis.  The goal is to facilitate the restoration of at-risk families and individuals to their full God-designed potential through caring mentoring relationships.

Oasis also provides Better Living Series seminars over a variety of topics.  This gives the public a chance to visit Oasis and hear staff speak on areas of their expertise.  Seminars include: Single and Satisfied, Parenting the Adolescent, Preparing Teens for Safe Dating, and Taking the Stress out of our Family. Other topics that can be requested include weight loss, dealing with grief, avoiding and overcoming internet pornography exposure and addiction, anger management, separation and divorce, and parenting.  Please contact Dr. Mark Stortvedt if you would like to use outside speakers.

Internship programs are also available to those who desire to use counseling within their own church ministry.

Oasis accepts Medicaid, Medicare, Kid’s Connection, and most private insurance.  United Way sliding fee scale may be available to sexual abuse victims, sexual abuse perpetrators, and domestic violence victims.
