Northeast Nebraska Area on Aging

The Northeast Nebraska Area Agency on Aging service area in Northeast Nebraska serves 22 counties. Antelope, Boone, Boyd, Brown, Burt, Cedar, Cherry/City of Valentine, Colfax, Cuming, City of Columbus, Dakota, Dixon, Holt, Knox, Madison, Nance, Pierce, Rock, Stanton, Thurston, and Wayne counties are included.

Eligibility for services is based on age. A person must be 60 years or older to qualify, but other considerations may be given.

NENAAA services include congregate meals, chore service, care management, respite care, education, transportation, home-delivered meals, telephone reassurance, information and assistance, health clinic, and senior care options.  The NENAAA also offers an emergancy response system, health promotion, housekeeping, legal services, socialization, outreach, personal care, caregiver support, ombudsman, Medicaid waiver, and nutrition counseling.

Through the care management program a case manager will complete an assessment to identify the older adult’s needs. A care plan is then developed for the client with they and their family’s input.

In-home services are also available and include an assessment of the client’s needs.  Services may include housekeeping, personal care, respite care, an emergency response system, lawn care, and snow removal.  The goal of the program is to prevent premature institutionalization of older adults.

The Senior Care Options program helps assure appropriate utilization of long-term services covered by Medicaid.  It helps clients see if nursing home placement is the best decision, and it helps them explore other options as well.

NENAAA also has a service system called the Aged and Disabled Medicaid Waiver that helps people with long-term care needs have the options for receiving services.

The NENAAA also has the SHIIP program (Senior Health Insurance Information Program) available and Nebraska SMP program (Medicare fund). SHIIP services provide free counseling and educational services on making informed decisions about Medicare, Medicaid, and health insurance.  Nebraska SMP provides education on the protection of Medicaid dollars.

Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
